Obituary

Growing up in Fitzgerald, Georgia, Alexander was a quiet young boy who was always helpful and enjoyed being in the kitchen. His family later relocated to Broward County, Florida, where he received his education. He graduated from Dillard Senior High School in 1966.
If you knew Alexander, you would know one of his favorite things to do was cook. Therefore, he started his life’s journey by attending culinary school, where he learned many valuable lessons in food preparation. Although he attended school, Alex was born with a gift to cook and bake. He was always sought after to prepare foods, bake cakes, or other delicious desserts. One of his life’s joys was to watch people enjoy eating the foods he prepared for them. This great joy would lead him to become one of the first chefs to put Conch Town USA on the map.
Alex was raised to be a hard worker and believed that a man who didn’t work didn’t eat. Therefore, he would have two jobs at any given time. Throughout his life, he worked for the Broward County Public School System, Miami-Dade County, and the Toll System. Alex was also a General Manager for Church’s Chicken for the tri-county area for nearly 30 years.
A little while after relocating to Florida, he was introduced to the love of his life, Syble Wallace. They later married and were blessed with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. After they were married, she invited him to attend her church, House of God Miracle Temple. He joined and became a member and later was ordained as a deacon. Sadly, in December 2013, God saw fit to call the love of his life home.
Alex loved his grandkids, fishing, sports, watching the news, puzzles, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, reading the almanac, and spending time with his family.
Alexander Chandler will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: one brother, Altonie Johnson; two sisters, Sharonda Brand (Henry) and Theresa Merritt (Willie); five daughters, Joan Wallace, Livee Carr (Edwin), Estee Chandler, Cilicia Chandler, and Operrlyne Chandler (Jeremiah); one son, Hayward Wallace (Betty); Christopher and Esther Chandler preceded him in death; eleven grandchildren, Edwin, Lauriel, Kenneth, Lamont, Kennethia, Quintin, Ra’Shard, Ja’Rayna, Christopher, Chase, and Tyrisha; two great-grandchildren, Harmoni and Kennedi; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends near and far.
