Obituary

From Miami Times Life Story Alonzo Elliott was born February 25, 1942, to Jake and Louise Elliott in Samson City, Florida, who has proceeded him in death. Alonzo was the third oldest of 13 children After he was born, his father and mother brought some land and built a home for the family in Howard, Florida. From an early age, he was brought up in the Church of Christ in Coconut Grove. He enjoyed singing at Church and around the house.

Alonzo attended R.R. Moton Elementary School in Perrine, and graduated from Mays, Sr., High. While in high school, he played the trombone in the band, and he discovered what a great athlete he was in football and in track. He attended college after high school, but it was cut short when he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1963. He was honorably discharged in 1966. “Lonza” as he was called had many hobbies in which he enjoyed such as boxing, car racing, but most of all, he loved fishing.

Lonza had a big personality that always shined through. He was known as the “enforcer in the family.” If you had a problem, he would be called to fix it. Lonza enjoyed laughing and telling stories of all the adventures he encountered in his life.

Lonza met and married Martha Black(deceased) in 1968 and had four kids. He had many jobs until he was hired by United States Veteran Affairs as a police officer in 1980. In 1989, life took him in a new direction where he met and married Carolyn Pomare and had a son. Lonza continued working as a police officer until 2002 retiring due to injury. Life happened again and he relocated to Lakeland, Florida. Alonzo was a dedicated member of the Church of Christ. He made several new friends and he was always polite to everyone. His laughter, humor, and hugs were what he was known for and he loved to attend family events. He had a Big heart.

On January 29, 2024 God called him home. God heard his cry of being tired and needed rest. “Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest” {Matthew 11 :28}
He leaves to cherish his memory: his brothers, Faheem Arbyummi (Jameela) and Artis Elliott; sisters, Rosalee Patterson, Edna Mae Kelly, Juanise Elliott, and Zena Elliott; sons, Horatio Griffith (Leola) Anthony Elliott and Marvin Elliott; daughters, Tarra Stewart (Cardrick), Robyn Parsons (Aaron) Secicly Bell (Ossie) Ada Buchanan, as well as 26 grandkids, 18 great-grandkids, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
