Obituary

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the Heaven:
A time to be born and a time to die.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-2a

A time to Be Born:  Reverend Dr. Annie Mae Brinkley was born on November 19, 1938, in Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida, the second child of four, to the late Rev. Ben Wilson, Sr., and the late Fibbie Wilson. Seeking a better life, her family moved to Miami, Florida. She grew up in the Brownsville (Brown Sub) community.

A Time to Commit Her Life to Christ: Reverend Brinkley accepted Jesus Christ at an early age- Baptized here at Antioch M.B.C. of Brownsville. She was called by God, to preach the Gospel in 1999. She received her Certificate of License in Ministry at Second Chance Missionary Baptist and was ordained by Reverend Dr. Ben Wilson, Jr. She served as associate minister, Sunday school superintendent, devotional leader of the Retiree, Seniors, and Friends Group, a member of the Senior Women Mission Ministry, and a member of the Sheperd’s Care Ministry. She never hesitated to give or be a part of the cause. She would go to hospitals and pray for the sick, accompanied by her granddaughter, Shatera. Reverend Brinkley always loved children and meeting new people. No matter who you were she would always say, “I love you.” She loved her church family, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews, and all of her family.

A Time for Education: Reverend Brinkley received her early education from Bethune Elementary and Miami Northwestern Senior High School class of ’57. She also studied Cosmetology in high school and became a beautician. She obtained her higher education from Barry University, graduating with a Master Degree in Business Education. She graduated with her PhD in Theology from Jacksonville Theological Seminary on May 25, 2003.

A Time to Work: Reverend Brinkley, a high school teenager, worked as a babysitter for a family with four children in South Miami. They loved her. She worked at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital as a female custodian, and a licensed beautician-working in her mother-in-law’s shop. She worked in several positions in the Miami-Dade County Public Schools System; library clerk, attendance clerk, wage and salary secretary, adult business education teacher at Lindsey Hopkins, and a business education teacher at Brownsville Middle School, from which she retired after 33 plus years in the school system. In June, 2002, she received her Certificate of Appreciation from Miami-Dade County for recognition of dedicated service to the education and welfare of the community.

A Time to Wed: Annie met and married the late Allen Brinkley. To this union, two daughters were born, Tangela Coleman and Andrea Ingraham.

A Time for Leisure: Annie and her three siblings (as children) loved climbing mulberry trees, playing with their pets, and picking huckleberries out of the fields. Annie and her sister, Tera, would always like to do each other’s hair. She loved reading books and magazines, and traveling to different places, singing, fishing, and bowling.

A Time to Say Goodbye: On Friday morning, April 26, 2024, at 5:25 a.m., Reverend Dr. Annie Mae Brinkley slept peacefully and went away to be with the Lord, with her nurse and granddaughter by her side. Her everlasting smile and essence will never be forgotten. She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Tangela Coleman and Andrea Ingraham (Gerald); four grandchildren, Eldon Brinkley (Tranice), Jermiane Wilson (Marquita), Renata Coleman, and Shatera Coleman; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Tera Stewart; one brother, Reverend Dr. Ben Wilson, Jr.; three sisters-in-law, Katie Wilson, Christine Wilson, and Attorney Henrietta Pace, all of Miami, Florida; and a host of other relatives and sorrowing friends.
