Obituary

A Time to Be Born:
On July 13, 1956, Anthony Vernon Edwards was born in Miami, Florida, to the parentage of Erma and Eddie Holloway Edwards.

A Time of Remembrance:
Anthony was also known affectionately and will be fondly remembered as “Poe” to his many friends and family members. He received his formal education in the Miami Dade County public school system. Poe was multifaceted and self-taught in many areas of maintenance and repair that was unmatched by many. From early childhood throughout adulthood, Poe gained interest and remained a lover of sports. He especially favored the sports basketball and football. Family and friends will always remember his lifelong love for the Dallas Cowboys! Growing up with six other siblings along with a Mother as an avid sports fan, there was always fun times with family and neighborhood friends at the Edwards house during sports seasons.

Lessons of unconditional love were always taught and exhibited in the Edwards home. As part of life teaching from parents and grandmother, Essie M. Thomas, respect and compassion for others was always a valued lesson. Another act of brotherly love was expressed through Poe’s attention to household chores, planning daily meals, cooking, and running errands, especially for Ma Patton, making sure all were well delighted him so much.

Anthony was employed for many years with Conch It Up Restaurant and Hard Rock Stadium. He remained a pillar of his family until one week before his health started to decline which led to hospitalization and ultimate demise. He fought a good fight and the victory was won on the evening of January 9th when God beckoned him to come live in Heavenly peace. God has spoken, and now Anthony “Poe” Edwards is peacefully residing in Heaven.

A Time to Love:
In the year of 1988, Anthony met the love of his life, Colette V. Graham, the lady he brought home to meet his mother and family. They loved each other unconditionally and realized life together would mean the world to both of them and decided to unite as one in September of 2013.

Anthony was the true definition of his “Brother’s Keeper,” as he learned early in life. The unbreakable bond and genuine family love remained unconditional.

On Tuesday evening, January 9, 2024, after 6:00 p.m., our Heavenly Father relieved Anthony of his earthly struggles and illnesses as he transitioned peacefully to be with the Lord. He left this earthly life to live healthy in eternal peace with his Father God in Heaven.

Anthony was preceded in death by his loving parents,  sister, Portia Edwards White (Louis White of Miami, FL); and brothers, Andre Ronald and Dana Chauncey Edwards.

A Time to Mourn:
He leaves to cherish loving memories with his siters, Deidre Butler and Erin Patton (Theodore); brother, Jeffrey Edwards; also with treasured heartfelt memories are one aunt, Ovida Denson of Boynton Beach, FL; nephew, Jonathan Edwards (Tawana) of Alma, GA; nieces, Chauncette Riley (Horace), Sherri Dixon (Mark), Deidre Jean-Baptiste of Canton, GA, Latarsha Butler Kaabneh, Tomeka Johnson, Tanya Grant (Terrence), and Andrea Wilcox; nephews, Terrence Wilcox of New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Theron Patton; and a host of beloved grand and great-grandnieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Brothers-in-love through many years, Anthony Shellman, Lawrence King, and Lavelle Howard, who fondly regarded Anthony as “Uncle Poe,” will always hold special memories.
