Obituary

Arthur B. Bentley, affectionately known as “Bob,” was born October 27, 1937, in Asbury Park, New Jersey, to the late Arthur B. Bentley, Sr., and Mable H. Smith Bentley.
Arthur B. Bentley attended Asbury Park public schools, graduating from Asbury Park High School in 1955. He continued his education at Brookdale Community College and Howard University. While in New Jersey, Arthur was a dedicated employee at Rahway State Prison and Marlboro State Hospital. He attended Mount Pisgah Baptist Temple.
On July 28, 1958, Arthur joined the United States Army but was Honorably Discharged on October 14, 1958, due to his vision.
In 1974, Arthur moved to Miami, Florida, where he attended Miami Dade Community College and began employment at Miami VA Hospital as a LPN. Upon the decline of his vision, he transferred to the Alcohol and Substance Abuse unit as a counselor, retiring in 2004. In 1978, while employed at the VA, Arthur met the love of his life L. Laura McGahee. They joined in holy matrimony on April 16, 1983.
In the early 1990’s, Arthur joined the Alpha Omega Lodge No. 357 and was an active member, until his health declined. On July 24, 1993, Arthur was promoted to the Sublime Prince of the Royal Secret 32° and on December 31, 1996, was elected and installed as Worshipful Master of the Alpha Omega Lodge No. 357. He was also a member of the T. A. Role Order of the Eastern Stars Chapter No. 24.
Arthur was a charter member of Fishing Friends Fishing Club. In 2007, Arthur joined the St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, where he was an active member of Bible
Study, until his health declined.
On Sunday, May 21, 2023, in the quiet early morning, he heard the call of God and transitioned to his eternal home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, William Bentley, Eugene Bentley, and Malcolm Valentine.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of forty years, L. Laura Bentley; daughters, Brigett Bentley of Stockbridge, GA, Michelle L. White of Brookhaven, GA, Tanya (Gaston) Bentley-Flowers of Winterville, NC, Jacqueline H. Bentley-Lewis of Atlanta, GA, and Carolyn M. Hester and Roma McGahee, both of Miami, FL; godson, William Parlor, whom he raised as his own; grandchildren, Jermaine B. Bentley, Monique C. White, Noble P. B. Lewis, Spencer S. B. Lewis, Tameka McGahee, Latavia Hester, Quintin Hester, Rakayla Frazier, and Olivia, Sophia, and Ava Parlor; greatgrandchildren, Jaylin Roberts, A’Niyah Bloom, and Baileigh Lee; sisters-in-law, Wanda Williams and Tarasheema Marshall; dedicated caregiver, Pauline Malcolm; and a host of extended family and friends.
