Obituary
Astley Lewis was born on Monday, February 10, 1930, in the District of Cave, Westmoreland, Jamaica. He is the fifth child of six siblings of the late Frankie and Mable Lewis.
Astley relocated to the USA in the late 1960’s.
He was the father of three girls, Olive Johns, Imogene Lewis, and Carlyne Dixon, at the time when he left Jamaica.
While living and working in the USA, Astley received the calling from God, where he became a travelling Evangelist, travelling from State to State and to other countries including Jamaica.
During this time, he met and married Mary E. Mobley, where he became father of seven more children, Eva Milton, Volly Smith, Linda Strong, Perklee Jackson, Ozzeil Frazer, Lisa (Lewis) Rayford, and Leroy Green.
On August 17, 1984, he started Shady Grove Apostolic Holiness Church, Inc. along with his wife and children.
When his wife became ill, he cared for her whilst still continuing Pastoring.
She preceded him in death in May 2003.
Pastor Lewis continued the work of the Lord, travelling, preaching, and doing what the Lord had called him to do.
On August 26, 2006, he married Evangelist Mary Giron. He again became the father of two more children, Jonathan Giron and Simone Adams.
Evangelist Mary Lewis served alongside him in ministry.
In May 2022, whilst working on a project in the church where he pastored, Bishop Astley Lewis suffered a stroke. He was taken to the hospital, where he stayed for awhile. After his hospital stay, he was not able to return home, so he went to a Rehab/Nursing Home. His wife, family, and friends were always at his side.
His wife, Evangelist Mary Lewis, was by his side until she became ill. In August 2024, she got worse and transitioned to glory on October 7, 2024. Family and friends continued to visit him so that he was never alone.
On the evening of January 27, 2025, Bishop Astley Lewis heard the voice of the Lord telling him to come unto me and rest. Bishop answered the call and left this world behind. Leaving to celebrate his life are daughters, Olive Johns (granddaughters, Anastasia, Patricia-Jamaica, and Lisa-Cayman), Carlyne Dixon (husband, Franklyn and daughter, Deidre-Ann), Avon Park, FL; nieces, Clair Samuels of Avon Park, FL, and Rosalee Lewis of Sebring, FL, Volly Smith of Miami, FL (children, Kim, Jackie, Herb and Charlie), Lisa (Lewis) Rayford (children, Latoya, Antuquoin, and Marlon); children, Vaniese, Trese, Leo, and Kathy; nephews, Dave Lewis of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Rupert Lewis (Mike) of Wachula, FL; special friends, Evangelist Mason, Bishop Jack, and Pastor Solomon; and numerous other nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, church family, and friends.
