Obituary
Barbara Mae West was born on September 18, 1941, in Baltimore, Maryland, to mother Edith Johnson and father William Gaither.
Barbara finished high hchool and later on graduated from Herbert H. Lehman College, Bronx, New York in 1973, while raising her only child, Wanda Whitfield. She studied and became a radiologist.
Barbara worked for VA Hospital for 32 years starting in New York, and later relocated to Miami, Florida. She was known for her laughter, humor, kindness, and generosity, and touched the lives of many people. She had a deep love for music, family and community. In her free time, she enjoyed sports and visiting different restaurants.
Barbara will always be remembered for her impact on others, her stern beliefs and her endless love for family.
Barbara answered the call of the Lord on Friday, March 6, at Memorial Hospital.
Barbara was preceded in death by her daughter, Wanda Whitfield.
Leaving to cherish loving memories are: six grandchildren, Antwan Whitfield, Antwanette Whitfield, Luchawndra Whitfiles (Golden Gantt) Arielle Whitfield, Timothy Livingston, and Antwane Livingston; nine great-grandchildren: Lamgrd, Janya, Lynval, Tyler, Nevaeh, Nicokisdr, Kia, King, Aaliyah and Alton; goddaughter, Lisa Bell; close friends, Lantnette Brodan, Grace Huston, Mackey Wright, Shirely Joe and Liz Wilson; and a host of sorrowing family and friends.
