Obituary
Bettie Joan Hill was born on February 23, 1942, in Barney, Georgia, to the late Peter Stokes and the late Alberta Shelton. She was raised alongside her eight siblings, the late Minnie Parris, the late Ira Williams, the late Lucille Shelton, the late Eugene Williams, Robert Williams (Shawn), Lonnie Brown, Valerie Shelton, and Steven Shelton.
Bettie Joan Hill was a light in the lives of everyone blessed enough to know her. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, she was the heart of her family and the foundation of unconditional love on 92 Street. Her love was not spoken in words, but it was shown in every meal she cooked, every door she opened, every seat she made at the table, and every moment she made someone feel they belonged. Her home was not just a house, it was a place of warmth, comfort, laughter, and safety for all who entered. Her legacy is not only in the life she loved but in every memory she created and every heart she touched.
On May 3, 2026, Heaven gained a beautiful soul, but those she left behind lost a piece of their world. They ache of her absence is deep but so is the gratitude for a life that gave so much love, comfort, and strength. She was a loving mother to eight children, Sylvia Stokes, Ronald Hill, Timothy Hill, Jenita Hill Lawhorne, Todd Lee, Lagailia Hill, Lewis Washington, and Jasmine King; she had 18 grandchildren, with one grandson Tory Perry who preceded her in death, and 17 great-grandchildren; special friends, Deborah Johnson and Mabeline McKinney; and a host of other family and friends who are left to mourn.
