Obituary
Carlton Richards Freeman was born in Port Limon, Costa Rica, in 1941 from the union of Lydia Virginia Hines Freeman and Clarence Powell Archibald. He was raised by his grandparents, James and Wilhelmina Hines. He immigrated to the United States in Miami, Florida, at the age of 26. He worked as a truck driver.
He and his wife, Dassett Virginia Morrison Freeman, had three children, Carlton Richard Freeman, Jr., Lizette Nicole Freeman, and Jamal Omar Freeman. He enjoyed flying airplanes and obtained his pilot’s license. He also enjoyed baking bread, listening to jazz, calypso, and soul music, and smoking his cigars. He loved to be the life of the party. He was a “Jack of all trades, master of none, but often times better than a master of none.” Even if he never did your job, he thought he could always tell you how to do it better than the way you were trained! He had a unique bond with each of his six children. He had a house in Costa Rica, so he spent much time between there and Miami. He went to his homeland to spend his last days, and in his transition, he embraced the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother, Robert Wilfred Hines Freeman (Peto).
He will be missed by his children, Carlton Richards Freeman, Jr., Lizette Nicole Freeman, Jamal Omar Freeman, Paul Rene Freeman, Fiamma Lian Sweeting, and Stephan Philip Sweeting; grandchildren, Brianna, Jada, Daja (Carlton Jr.), Isaiah, Nakaya, Devin, Skylah (Lizette), Taylor, Jamal Jr. (Jamal Sr.), and Joshua (Paul); he also leaves behind his three great-grandchildren, Galaxy (Joshua), Isaiah Jr. (Isaiah Sr.), and DeVann (Brianna). He will also be missed by his siblings, Barbara Marge Lettman (widow), Clarence Owen Freeman (Millicent), Vilma Rosemary Salas (Osnori), Damaris Virginia Graham-Reams (widow), and Mario
Emanuel Graham (Teresa); missing him as well are his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other extended family and friends. We unite his homecoming and accept that he is resting in peace.
