Obituary
Carwell D. Sims, Sr., was born in Miami, FL, on September 18, 1944, to the late Deacon Earnest Sims, Sr., and Deaconess Carlenia Sims. He was the eldest of five siblings. His parents and two siblings, Earnest Sims, Jr., and Carlenia Sims-Omaghomi, preceded him in death.
Carwell was educated in the Miami-Dade County public school system. He graduated from Miami Northwestern Senior High with the Class of 1964. There, he met his beautiful wife, Emma Nell Burks. From their union, three children were born.
Mr. Sims worked diligently and humbly as a Stevedore. He served proudly as a member of the International Longshoremen Association Local 1416 since 1978.
He was well-respected in his position as the Water Boy.
The Lord saw fit to call him home on August 21, 2025
He is survived by his wife, Emma Nell Sims; one son, Carwell Sims, Jr.; two daughters, Cheryl Sims and Janelle Sims; he was a devoted grandfather to Kahmani, DeAngelo, and Janelle Evans; and his oldest granddaughter, Caliyah Sims, blessed him to be a great-grandfather to Denvyr Martin.
He holds a special place in the heart of his aunt, Polly Spears. His sister, Eldora Sims, and brother, Reginald Sims (Esther), will remain to cherish his legacy along with his nieces, Kemyata Willis (Maurice), Kayonza Sims, Tonika Jones, and Naomi and Victoria Sims. He continues to be revered by his nephews, Earnest Sims III (Alicia), Jordan Sims, Lenny Hughes, Tito and Curtiss Omaghomi, and Tyrome Jones. His memory will also live on in his sister-in-law, Jerry Sims.
He will forever be loved and respected by a host of cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews, other family, and friends.
