Obituary
Charlie L. Wiley was born on July 1, 1948, to the late Elder Charlie E. Wiley and Mable Patterson-Wiley. He was one of seven children, four girls and three boys. The Wiley family was well known in Perry, Florida, where Charlie and his siblings were affectionately called the “PKs,” or “Preacher’s Kids.”
Charlie received his early education in the Taylor County School District and graduated with honors from Jerkins High School. Following graduation, he proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force. He answered the call to serve and began his military journey in San Antonio, Texas, ultimately receiving an honorable discharge after serving his country.
Always determined to excel and create greater opportunities for himself, Charlie later relocated to Miami, Florida. There, he was recruited to work at the Biscayne Annex Post Office while also gaining valuable experience at the Miami Herald Newspaper. Charlie was known for his exceptional work ethic, dependability, and determination. He often traveled directly from one job to another, making sure he arrived on time and fulfilled each responsibility with care.
While working at the U.S. Post Office, Charlie met Rhudine Spotford. The two were united in marriage, and their union was blessed with a son, Charles Wiley Jr.
Charlie carried with him the example set by his father, who taught him the importance of staying connected to his faith in Jesus Christ and finding a church home wherever life led him. Charlie became a faithful member of New Liberty City House of God Church, where he served as an ordained deacon and a dedicated Adult Sunday School teacher. His commitment to ministry and service reflected his love for God and his desire to be a soldier in the Army of the Lord.
Charlie’s church affiliations also included Holy Faith Missionary Baptist Church, where he remained a faithful member until his health no longer allowed.
Charlie leaves to cherish his precious memory and carry on his legacy: his beloved wife, Rhudine; his children, Teresa (Timothy), Douchelle (Obie), Natasha (Frank), Charles Jr., Darrell, and Monique; and his siblings, Sara, Samuel, and James. He was preceded in death by his siblings Margaret, Carrie, Christine, and Thomas.
He will also be lovingly remembered by a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and all those whose lives he touched throughout the years.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to his devoted caregivers during his final days: Abigail, Ester, and the entire team at Vista Health Care. Their loving care, compassion, and attention to Charlie’s daily needs will always be appreciated. Special gratitude is also extended to Dashaun Watkins for her kindness, support, and care.
