Obituary
Claretha Annette Williams Flowers, 67, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Claretha affectionally known as “Red” was born on October 19, 1957 at the Palatka Memorial Hospital in Palatka, Florida to Ida Mae Kemp and Joseph Williams. She spent her childhood in East Palatka (Putnam County), Florida. She was raised by her paternal grandparents, Robert and Clara Williams Brown.
Claretha was best described as fun-loving and tomboyish. She enjoyed playing basketball in the yard with all the older boys in the neighborhood. She played basketball with her high school team “the Lady Braves” and the City League softball team the “Palatka Merchants”.
Claretha was baptized at an early age and became a member of Morning Star Baptist Church under Reverand L.C. Hicks. She participated in the Jr. Choir, Usher Board, and Sunday School.
Claretha graduated from Palatka South High School in 1975. After graduation, she moved to Miami, Florida to live with her mother.
Claretha met her husband, the love of her life, Mr. Mark Flowers. From this union, three children were born.
Claretha was employed with the United States Postal Service as a Mail Carrier.
Claretha was preceded in death by her mother and father, both maternal and paternal grandparents, five brothers: Dwight Mattox, Theadore Kemp, Lloyd Haynesworth, and Freddie Brown and one sister: Schywann Williams.
Claretha leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Mark Flowers; three children: Antanizia (Tracy) Williams, Kissimmee, FL; Felton (Kerline) Williams, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Felishia Williams, Miami, FL; seven brothers: Cornell Mattox, Miami, Derek Kemp, Jacksonville, FL, Carl (Bridgette) Lewis, Bernard Lewis, Joezar Williams, Palatka, FL; Joseph A. Williams, Orlando, Fl; and James (Claire) Kearney, Miami, Fl; six sisters Bettye (Roosevelt) Reese, Waycross, GA; Sheena Williams and Estalita Williams, Orlando, FL; Josephine Williams, Adel, GA; Vernita Daniels and Veronica Williams, Daytona Beach, Fl. A Stepmother: Mrs. Gertrude Williams, Orlando, FL. Three Brother-n-laws: Johnnie Flowers, Hubert Flowers, Jr., and Freddie Flowers, Miami, FL; five sister-n-laws: Phyllis Mattox and Mary Johnson, Miami, FL, Theresa Flowers, Betty Flowers, and Kathy Flowers, Troy, Alabama. Eight grandchildren: Tamani Williams, Lashun Edwards, Lashea Edwards, Markisha Flowers, Tatiana, Flowers, Kaylani Flowers, Makyah Prudent, Roykia Stephens; Two great-grandsons: Azai Eddie and Desmond McClain, and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.
