Obituary

Dedeaire Danyell Griffin was born on March 29, 1978, in Miami, Florida, to Veronica Griffin-James and Lee Vern Jones. Dedeaire started his life letting you know he was here. Though he could not speak words, we understood when and how he needed all of us. Screaming to the top of his lungs morning, noon, and night was his language of choice.

When time came, Dedeaire understood his assignment of being the oldest brother, the leader and the protector to Dabari “Bari,” Damon “Zoda,” and Dexter “Ace.”

He began his primary learning education within the Dade County public schools, starting at Golden Glades Elementary where he was extremely vocal. Dedeaire met no strangers. Per his elementary school teachers, “Dedeaire would have conversations with his classmates while I am teaching the class.” His reply was always the same, “They were talking to me first and I needed to answer them.” Some things never changed. He also attended Lake Stevens Middle. There, he was considered the French kid, only because he convinced the teachers that he didn’t speak English. He graduated his way to Miami Carol City Senior High.

Because no one could pronounce his name, Dedeaire was favorably known as “DDL” by family and friends alike. Dedeaire’s growth was carefully watched over by his grandmother whose nurturing spirit helped to guide him. She once kept him up late at night to teach him to dance for his upcoming prom. His brothers found it hilarious. Unfortunately, she transitioned before they’d surrender the same teachings. Dedeaire will always be remembered by his family and friends as funny, compassionate, and endearing, gifts he received from his family. Dedeaire mastered a multitude of skills, including carpentry, barbering/cosmetology, mechanics, construction detailing, landscaping, and more.

Dedeaire was the father to a total of six beautiful children whom he adored, four of them being Dedeaire D. Griffin, De’Shaun Griffin, De’Quan Griffin, and Gloria Jefferson. Being a great father was important to him. Thinking outside of the box was his way of teaching his children that the world was not cookie-cutter perfect. “You can still accomplish goals by taking another route,” he would say.

Dedeaire met his current wife, Melissa Maycock Griffin, in the spring of 2006. Their friendship bloomed into romance and the two became one in October of 2022. They were blessed with two sons, Kyle and Kyson. Dedeaire accepted the role of heading an extended family by adding his wife’s children, Deja and Byron, and grandkids, Sanai and Shirod, to his family.

Dedeaire was an attentive son to his mother, a loyal brother to his brothers, a thoughtful grandson, a fantastic nephew, a caring uncle, a dear godson, and a considerate friend.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Annetta Griffin Dennis; father, Lee Vern Jonesa nd mother-in-law, Jennifer Maycock.

Dedeaire leaves behind to cherish his memories: his devoted wife, Melissa Maycock Griffin; six children, Dedeaire (BD) De’Shaun, De’Quan, Gloria Jefferson, Kyle, and Kyson; loving mother, Veronica Griffin James (Noel); brothers, Dabari D. Griffin, Damon D. Henderson (Suzette), and Dexter D. Henry; grandfather, Ormand L. Burnside; uncles, John L. Dennis, Frederick D. Dennis, and Rodney Dennis; aunts, Alison Burnside and Carla Dames (Huel); great-aunts, Nevell Griffin and Hyacinth Johnson (Arthemon); great-uncle, Everett Burnside; father-in-law, Isaac Holton; godparents, Moses and Dorothy Madison; cousin moms, Lisa Griffin-Betsy and Andrea Griffin; and an additional host of sorrowing family and friends.
