Obituary

Devon Deano Avant was born on October 2, 1986, in Miami, Florida, to his proud and loving parents, Staci Avant and Deano Franklin. His heart was also nurtured by the unconditional love of his second mother, Yvetta Franklin. The love of his siblings deeply enriched Devon's life: Laquania, Ronnie Jr., Termaine, Terrain, Ja'kiya, Deanoria, Deanasia, and D'Ariea, and special friend, Jarmeika James.

Devon's presence also blessed a close-knit circle of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins, in-laws, friends, and coworkers, who were all touched by his kindness. Devon was often called a Gentle Giant, a name that perfectly captured his patience, humility, and gracious spirit. His angelic character is what allowed him to be favored by everyone he encountered, personally and professionally.

Devon’s journey through life was one of resilience and grace, facing challenges with a compassionate heart and persistent focus. He attended Miami Carol City Sr. High School, where he showcased his talent and determination as a football player. As an elite linebacker, his skills and abilities helped lead his team to victory, securing the prestigious Class 6A Florida State Championship in 2003. His zeal for excellence on the field mirrored his devotion to everything he pursued. In 2005, he graduated with Chief Pride, carrying with him the discipline and resilience that would define his life.

Following high school, Devon forged a successful career in security, devoting over a decade to Security Management Innovation at the Port of Miami. His strong work ethic and steadfast commitment made him an invaluable member of the team. Even as he pursued new opportunities, he remained a part of the company, saying, "I won’t leave because they are like my family." His loyalty and dedication were a testament to the depth of his character.

Devon’s ambition knew no limits. In 2018, Devon graduated from the Turner Tech Adult Education Electrician Program, earning his Electrician Certification. For six years, his skilled hands and sharp mind illuminated the lives of many. But he did not stop there; his unwavering ambition and tenacity led him to a new chapter in 2024 when he joined JLL as a Mechatronic Robotics Technician. His relentless drive and thirst for knowledge propelled him forward as he continued to seek new ways to better himself and provide for those he loved.

Yet, Devon’s most remarkable work was not in security, electrical circuits, or robotics; it was in the love and generosity he poured into the lives of those around him. In 2016, he answered God’s call and was baptized at 93rd Street Missionary Baptist Church, sealing his commitment to a life of faith and purpose. His spiritual journey was defined by a deep love of Christ, and his belief served as a guiding light for both himself and those who admired him.

On March 29, 2025, Devon took his final walk with Jesus and now rests in eternal peace. Though his voice is now silent, his presence will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew and cherished him. His love, laughter, and light will continue to shine as a beacon of inspiration to all who were fortunate to be part of his journey. Rest well, Gentle Soul. Your light will never fade, and your memory will forever be a blessing to those who love you.
