Obituary
Today, as we celebrate Dinty’s remarkable journey, we give thanks to God for the blessing of her life. May we honor her legacy by living with the same grace, generosity, determination, and love that she so freely shared. Her memory will forever remain a guiding light and a cherished blessing to all who loved her. Dinty Murray was born on December 5, 1947, in the beautiful parish of Trelawny, Jamaica, to the late Hansel Murray and Lovina Dixon.
Dinty was the third of eight children born to her parents. She was lovingly raised by her grandmother, Beatrice Thomas, who instilled in her the enduring values of faith, hard work, respect, compassion, and perseverance. These principles became the foundation of Dinty’s life and were reflected in the kindness, generosity, and unwavering strength she shared with everyone she encountered.
She received her education in the Parish of St. James at Bickersteth, where she developed a passion for sewing, fashion, baking, and entrepreneurship. In 1979, Dinty migrated to Miami, Florida, where she worked as a Home Health Aide while faithfully pursuing her dream of owning her own business. Through determination and perseverance, she realized that dream in 1992 when she opened The Collection, a clothing store on Harbor Street in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication inspired all who knew her.
Dinty was known for her warm heart, gentle spirit, and quiet strength. She had a remarkable ability to make others feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Whether she was offering words of encouragement, extending a helping hand, or simply being present for family and friends, she left an unforgettable impression on the lives she touched. Her love for family, her generosity, and her steadfast faith created a legacy that will continue for generations.
She was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, Beatrice Thomas; parents, Hansel Murray and Lovina Dixon; and five of her siblings, Gladys Murray, Lloyd Murray, Standford Murray, Whitley Murray, and Gretel Golden. Though they have gone before her, their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.
Dinty leaves to cherish her precious memory: her devoted husband, Bennie Jackson; son, Roy James (Pauline); daughter, Dr. Andrea Jackson Williams (Doran Williams); beloved grandchildren, Rushane James, Sasheika James, Olivia Parker, Elroy James, and Roshelle James; treasured great-grandchildren, Willie Williams III, Wynter Williams, and Elias James; surviving siblings, Jim Murray and Mertleine Murray; extended family, including Roselyn Beckford, Margrete Richard, Joycelyn Allen, and Leslene Steele; along with many other cherished relatives, dear friends, and all whose lives were enriched by knowing her.
Although Dinty’s physical presence will be deeply missed, her love, wisdom, and beautiful spirit will continue to live in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. Her life was a testament to resilience, faith, compassion, and unconditional love.
