Doretha L. Symonette Wilcox was born on August 11, 1944, in Miami, Florida, to Mr. Alfred Symonette and Edith (Troutmon) Symonette.
Doretha attended George Washington Carver Elementary School and George Washington High School, where she was a majorette, enjoyed singing in her high school chorus, and dancing. She was a queen of Bahamian cuisine. She also loved gardening, and you could see the love she put into her yard.
She loved encouraging people and preaching the word of God. Her style was of royalty.

Left to cherish her memories are her three daughters, Theresa Brown, Valencia Parks (Johnnie Park), and Franshun Wilcox; two brothers, Oliver Symonette and Henry Symonette; grandchildren, Laletrice Hodges (Jovan), Lakeya Cooper (Rhaudell Cooper), Felton Brown (Joi), Martin Stroud, Martise Stroud, Kelly Parks, Julius Wilcox, and Alexy Sostre; a host of great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
