Obituary
Edythe McDuffie Stephens was born on May 28, 1936, in Pierce, Florida. She was the oldest child born to Johnnie Mae Roundree and George McDuffie.
The family relocated to Miami, where Edythe was educated in the Miami Dade public school system. She would go on to graduate from Dorsey High School.
Edythe was a true boy mom, giving birth to her first son, Dino, in 1959. She later would give birth to her second son, Edwin, in 1964. Edythe later married Joseph Nathaniel Stephens. Their union produced two sons, Ruye and Corey “Frog.”
For years Edythe worked for C.D. Medical, where she later retired after several years of employment.
Edythe had a heart to give. It brought her the greatest joy to see others happy. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she truly was the ultimate Mrs. Claus. The house would always be overflowing with gifts for others.
Edythe was outgoing. She loved to travel to the Florida Classic, booking tons of rooms to bring family and friends together. Shopping, dressing, and spoiling her grandchildren were amongst her favorite things to do.
Edythe joined New Hope MBC under the leadership of Bishop Randall E. Holts, where she attended until her health declined.
Edythe was cared for by the amazing staff of Claridge House, up until her departure.
Before dawn on January 11, 2024, Edythe inclined her ears to the whisper of the Lord, saying, “You fought a good fight and finished the course, come on up a little higher,” and she fell into the arms of the Almighty God. II Timothy 4:7-8
She is now reunited with her son, Dino Lewis. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Bernard McDuffy and George McDuffie.
Edythe leaves to mourn her sons, Edwin Shawn Glass, Ruye Glass, Corey “Frog” Stephens (Ericka), Wayne Stephens, and Joseph Stephens; brother, William Roundtree (Doris) of Tacoma, WA; sister, Anita Kaashif of Jacksonville; sister-in-law, Kathy of Jacksonville; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two very special friends, Martha Robinson and Sophia Dennis; godchildren, Ja’Kiya Jackson, and Al’Quasha Turner and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
