Obituary
Egean “Abs Doc” Collins was born in Miami, Florida, the youngest of five children born to Egean Collins, Sr., and Emma Jane Scott Collins.
From an early age, Egean showed a love for music—thanks in part to his older brother Gerald—and a curiosity for fixing anything with his hands, especially bicycles. He attended West Little River Elementary School and later Madison Middle School, where he played trumpet in the school band. That love for music was eventually replaced by a passion for football, discovered while playing on 22nd Avenue with friends in the neighborhood.
This passion would spark the beginning of a lifelong commitment to fitness. Egean played football for the Miami Central Rockets as a linebacker for four years, earning the nickname “Hotshot” from his teammates for his calculated and aggressive playing style. After graduating from high school, he went on to play Division I football at the University of Oklahoma (Boomer Sooners), and later at the University of Central Oklahoma. In August 2022, at the age of 59, he returned to school to earn his bachelor’s degree from Columbia Southern University.
Egean began his working life as a delivery driver for the Gold Coast Distributors in Miami. Following an on-the-job injury that required spinal surgery and the installation of two rods and six screws in his back, he began a challenging personal journey of physical rehabilitation. It was through this recovery that he discovered what fitness truly meant—and made it his mission to share that understanding with others.
In 2003, he opened Common Sense Fitness, his own gym. He later became a passionate advocate for health and wellness, traveling across Florida to teach the importance of movement, strength, and physical fitness.
Egean was the author of two books, The Solution and The EMR System, and the inventor of the Abs Doc Portable Training Station. He was known not only as a trainer and teacher, but also as a mentor and motivator who inspired many to rebuild their bodies and reclaim their strength.
He is survived by his loving partner of 22 years, Adrienne Rackley; his brother and sister-in-law, Randolph and Catherine Marshall; sister, Carveini Collins; children, Chemelle Bell, Anthony Collins, and Jamila Bell; stepdaughter, Kyra Rackley; grandchildren, Ajai Jones, JaKhi Plaisime, and JaNai Plaisime; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Egean took his rest on October 27, 2025. He may be absent from the body, yet he lives on through every life he touched and the invaluable legacy of knowledge he left behind.
He was preceded in death by his father, Egean Collins, Sr.; mother, Emma Jane Scott Collins; brother, Gerald “Papa” Collins; and brother, Bruce “Kitty” Scott.
