Obituary
On July 16, 1943, in Perry, Georgia, Emma Ruth Ivery Douglas was born to the late Ike Ivery and Emma Lattimore Ivery.
As a young woman, Emma relocated to Miami, Florida, where she completed her education at Booker T. Washington Senior High School. After graduation, she entered the workforce and dedicated many years of service at several hotels on Miami Beach. She later continued her career at St. Frances Catholic School, where she worked faithfully until her retirement. Even in retirement, Emma’s giving spirit remained strong as she joyfully assisted in her nephew’s restaurant, World Famous, in Miami.
Emma’s life was one of service, strength, and love. She endured hardships, yet always held fast to her faith and family. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Ann and Felicia; sons, Fred and Anthony; granddaughter, A’lexus Douglas; brothers, Wesley (Ethel Mae), Marion, Willie James, Robert, Isaac (Bernestine), Ernest (Ruby), and Jerry (Rose); and sisters, Daisy, Elnora, and Ruth.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Robert, Vincent, and Mayzell; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Thelma Ivery and Pearl Lattimore; two goddaughters; a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins; and two devoted friends, Alzoria Simmons and Doris Dowell.
Emma’s journey was a testament to love, perseverance, and faith. She touched countless lives with her kindness and left behind a legacy that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
