Obituary

Essie Mae Roper was born on February 21, 1942, in Manchester, Jamaica to Joseph and Loretta Simpson. Growing up, her education was in Clarendon, Jamaica.

Essie worked tirelessly to provide for her one and only child, Angela Williams, to whom she welcomed into the world on August 14, 1958.

In search for a better life, Essie migrated to the United States and began to work as a housekeeper with the American Dream in sight. In 1985, Essie wed the love of her life, the late Lausbert Roper. Her life took on new explorations with Lausbert while gaining new family members, friends, and creating long lived memories.

Essie and Angela continued to be inseperable. They did everything together, including cruising to exotic islands and enjoying a variety of cuisine. Spending time with family, friends, and church members is what she truly loved.

On November 13, 2010, Essie accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior at the New Alpha Worship Center in Miami Gardens.

On August 3, 2024, she heard the voice of the Lord and transitioned from this life and gained her wings. She is survived by: her daughter, Angela Williams; grandchildren, Jessica McKenzie-Jackson (Javas Jackson), Marlon Williams (Talesa Jackson), and Tangela Williams; great-grandchildren, Omari McCray, Tamaria Williams, Jaydan Jackson, Jacob Jackson, and Kali Carson; godson, Richardo Streete; longtime friends, Sonia, Gwen, and Bev; and a host of family and friends. We all loved her dearly and will miss her.
