Obituary
On August 13, 2026, God, in His infinite wisdom, called Geneva Ballard home to eternal rest. While our hearts are heavy because we will miss her deeply, we cannot think about Geneva without remembering the love, laughter, joy, and unforgettable personality she brought into our lives.
Geneva was born on August 26, 1954, in Summerton, South Carolina, to the late Richburg and Susie Mae Ballard. From the beginning, Geneva had a special way about her. She was loving, caring, strong-minded, determined, and full of life. She could make you laugh when you did not feel like laughing, and remind you that no matter what life brings, there is still a reason to live, love, and laugh.
Geneva began her education at Spring Hill Elementary School and later graduated from Scott’s Branch High School. She continued her education at Miami Dade College, where she studied Early Childhood Education.
In the late 1980s, Geneva made Miami, Florida, her home. She went on to dedicate 30 years of faithful service to Miami-Dade County Public Schools. During those years, she touched the lives of countless children, families, coworkers, and friends through her kindness, dedication, and caring spirit. After many years of faithful service, Geneva retired, but the memories, friendships, and relationships she built throughout her career remained.
Geneva was a faithful member of The Way of Holiness Church, serving under the apostolic leadership of Apostle Dr. Geraldine Whittaker. Prayer was an important part of her life, and she believed strongly in covering her children, grandchildren, family, and loved ones in prayer. Geneva willingly used her gifts and talents wherever they were needed in the church. She loved the Lord and carried her faith with her throughout her life.
And then there was Geneva’s fun side.
She loved cooking, watching television, spending time with family, laughing, and dancing. Geneva did not need much encouragement when it came time to move to the music. Her dance moves could bring laughter to the entire room, and once Geneva got started, you never knew exactly what was coming next. Geneva laughter was contagious, her smile was unforgettable and her personality was truly one of a kind.
Geneva was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Dr. Windy Ballard; her parents, Richburg and Susie Mae Ballard; and her sisters, Dorothy McKnight, Suester Ballard, and Margaret Fuller.
She leaves to cherish a lifetime of precious memories her beloved daughters, Sharon Ballard and Tammy Ballard, of Miami, Florida; her loving son, Anthony Wells, of Miami, Florida; her devoted life partner, Hilton McZeke; two loving sisters, Ethel Johnson and Rosa (Willie) Nelson, of South Carolina; and her brother, Hampton Ballard, of South Carolina, her grandchildren, Cornilous (Jennifer) Ballard, of Tennessee; Jakari Wilson, Jaiden Henry, and Josiah Joseph, of Miami, Florida; and her precious great-grandchildren, Carson Ballard, Jace Ballard, and Mia Ballard, of Tennessee. She also leaves a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and dear friends.
Although tears may fall when we realize Geneva is no longer physically with us, there will also be laughter when we remember something she said, or something she did. Her love will remain in our hearts, and her laughter will echo through every family gathering.
