Obituary
Gerry Lee Johnson, Jr., formerly known as Deacon, was born in Miami, Florida, on April 24, 1972, to Clayton and Shirley Toney. He was always a tough, loving, hardworking man. Since he was young, everyone knew that if anything needed to be done, Gerry would get to the bottom of it and handle whatever was needed. He was a man that you could always trust and rely on.
Although he was just one man, Gerry was the Jack of all trades. He was a handyman in all our lives. When anything needed to be fixed, he was there. He believed in helping people. Whether it was you talking to him when you needed his advice, or to be in his company for that good energy you needed to turn your day around. He was a good husband and always there for his wife. He honored his vows and his marriage. He was the son any mother and father could ever hope for. He was always that big brother you could count on.
Gerry was the father of nine children. He provided, protected, led, talked to, helped, encouraged, and was a friend when they were in need. He was that Deacon who wanted to serve and help. When the people on the streets were hungry, and when the people of God were hurting, he aided them. He was that friend that was true, when others tried to hurt you emotionally or physically, he would defend you anytime and anywhere without reservation.
He has left behind his wife, Bernice; children, Sammiah, Kenneth, Bernice, Derrick (Mariah), Demitri, Keoni, Felicia, Gerald (deceased), and Gerry; grandchildren, Chase, Stephon, Destiny, Zion, Josiah, Derrick Jr., Alani, Katlia, and Skylar; siblings, Clayton, Daniel, and Marcus; uncles, Ernest, Benny, John T., Jeffrey (Catherine), Robbie (deceased), Dennis (deceased), Robert (deceased), and John L. (deceased); aunties, Catherine, Kealethia, Bobbie Gaile, and Vivian (Orangelee); nieces, nephews, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
