Obituary
Harris Brantley was born on September 2, 1941, in Tifton, Georgia, to the late George and Bessie Brantley. He was educated in the Tift County Public School System, where he laid the foundation for a life filled with love, hard work, and dedication.
As a young man eager for new opportunities, Harris moved to South Florida. On June 16, 1969, he began working for the City of Miami Solid Waste Management and retired after 22 years of dedicated service. Retirement brought new passions into Harris’s life, particularly his love for working on cars and lawn mowers. He quickly became known as the neighborhood handyman, always ready to lend a helping hand. A few of his favorite hobbies were watching Westerns, fishing, and most of all, helping others.
A devoted family man, Harris married the love of his life, Ivory Brantley, on April 27, 1976. Their union was a testament to unwavering love and commitment, lasting nearly five decades. Harris joined The New Birth Baptist Church, serving as a faithful member for 35 years. Later joining Soul Saving Missionary Baptist church.
Harris remained an active member of the Senior Prayer Group at Arcola Lake Park, where he enjoyed congregating and walking every morning.
The Brantley home was known as a welcoming place because, to him, no one was a stranger, and his door was always open. He adopted and raised many sons and daughters, extending his love and guidance to all who needed it, exemplifying who he was as a man dedicated to his faith.
Harris was preceded in death by his parents, George and Bessie Brantley; daughter, Pamela Brantley-Tibbs; grandson, Kevin Tibbs; sisters, Emma Brantley-Steward, Elizabeth Brantley-Shannon, Georgia Brantley-Rushing, Ethel Brantley-Peeler, Jessie Brantley-Nolan, and Louise Brantley-Engram; and his brothers, Roy Brantley, Freeman Brantley, Frank Brantley, Eugene Brantley, George Brantley, Elbert (Ben) Brantley, and L.D. (Fox) Brantley.
On Thursday, August 8, 2024, Harris was called home to be with his Lord. He leaves a legacy to cherish his precious memories: his devoted wife, Ivory Brantley; sons, Sebastian Cannon-Brantley, Kevin Brantley, and Albert Cannon III; daughter, Teleacher Cannon; goddaughters, Marlo Jackson and Mary English; grandchildren, Anshanah Gadson, Ivory Cannon, Shannon Cannon, Tia Jones, Ellis McMillon III, Pamela Allen, Tiffany Brantley, Kiana Brantley, Jasmine Brantley, Kevin Brantley, Jr., Kai Brantley, and Kaelyn Brantley; great-grandchildren, Noah Branch, London Shipman, and Legend Baker; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
