Obituary
Hattie Mary Etta Thompson was born on June 15, 1940, to parents Mary Betty Jewel Thompson and James Thompson in the town of Cyrene, Georgia (Decatur County).
Sheattended West Bainbridge High School early in her youth. Her grandfather was a Sunday school teacher where she learned all about her Lord and Savior. She gave her life to Christ an became a member of Union Baptist Church in Georgia. Then after relocating she became a member of 93rd Street Baptist Church in Miami, Florida.
Hattie became the mother of five beautiful children who were the loves of her life: Randy Yarn (deceased), Wannikee Williams (Dennis Williams), Juanita Yarn-Slaughter (Richard Slaughter), Ronny Yarn in Germany, and Chiqueta Yarn-Hudson.
On October 19, 1979, she met her wonder (second) husband, Clarence Scurry (deceased). They shared a blissful marriage over 35 years. Hattie’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren have always been the continuous joy of her heart and in her life.
Her legacy shall continue to live on through her family and friends’ memories of her and in the essence of their hearts.
On March 2, 2025, Hattie was called to be in her forever home with her heavenly father. Hattie may have left this world but she left behind a part of her joyful laughter, hugs, kisses, soft touches, and motherly advice that will always be stored in every one of our souls.
Hattie Scurry is survived by Wannikee Williams, Juanita Slaughter, Ronny Yarn, Chiqueta Hudson, and a host of grands, great-grands, and other family and friends.
