Obituary

Brad-Hermie Robin was born on June 21, 1991, to Ann Bougouneau and Hommy Robin of Marigot. He was a beautiful dark-skinned baby boy with long, black, curly hair, who completed the trio of siblings. He was a very lively and independent little boy growing up. I remember Brad and his sister Salimah (Cherry) having lots of fights, screaming, and yelling; things that siblings do. Oftentimes, Salimah would be waiting for him to scold him for disobeying rules at home, especially when he came home late without giving account for where he had been. As we would put it simply back home, Brad had his own way. On the other hand, his older sister Cherryann would always try to protect him from any punitive measures.

Brad grew up as a normal, playful little boy who kept his family busy, not only with taking care of him by keeping him out of mischief, but also by trying to mitigate the effects of his asthmatic condition. Notwithstanding this, Brad frequently visited most homes in the community eating and spending time with friends, neighbors and family. He also loved spending hours in dam river soaking the bassay, despite the fact that his asthma frequently affected him. He lived defiantly and was determined to enjoy the simple pleasures of his childhood.

Brad attended the Marigot Junior school, although he often missed school due to his health challenges. Brad was not a lover of academics. We all knew that he had tremendous potential to succeed, however, he adopted a carefree attitude towards school. Nonetheless, he persevered and succeeded in his common entrance examination, thus affording him an opportunity to attend St. Andrew’s High School. His tenure at St. Andrew’s High school was short-lived as a result of Hermia obtaining her U.S. Green Card. As the youngest of the siblings, Brad was the only one who migrated with their mother to Miami. After migrating to Miami, Brad attended Northern Senior High School. In his last year of high school, Brad ended his academic journey and delved into the world of work.

Although stubborn at times, Brad was a good soul who loved and cared for his family dearly. He was always willing to assist wherever he could whenever he was called upon. When he was active and healthy, he would make time to spend with his friends and family. He encouraged and supported his favorite cousin, Akim, who was like a younger brother to him. He would also babysit his best friend’s children, who were his godchildren. At a very young age, it was observed that Brad loved cooking. He loved to bake his specialty macaroni and cheese for family and friends, and he made an excellent pelau that would rival that of any seasoned chef’s. In fact, we all thought Brad would have pursued a career path in the culinary arts, given his natural talent and ability in the kitchen.

Although Brad experienced many challenges, he never allowed them to deter him from living his life the best way he could. He was loved and cared for by his family during the good times, and the difficult times. Brad eventually became ill, and after years of battling the struggles that came with his illness, he was peacefully called home to his maker on September 29, 2023.

Brad’s 32 years with us was short-lived, but he impacted so many of us here today. Let his sudden departure from this earth be a glaring reminder to each of us, that our time here is finite, and we have a mandate to live our lives loving one another, and in true obedience to God.

We pray that Brad will rest in eternal peace and will meet his Lord and Savior.
