Obituary

Mr. Hommie Lee Lewis, Jr., received his prepared place on October 6, 2025. 

Hommie Lee Lewis, Jr., the son of the late Hommie Lee Lewis, Sr., and Lucy Mae McKenzie Lewis, was born on July 21, 1950, in Miami, Florida. 

He was a member of St. Peter’s Orthodox Catholic Church in Miami, Florida as a child and young man. 

Hommie was educated in the public school system of Miami Dade County, where he attended Miami Jackson High School and graduated in the Class of 1969. Upon graduation, Hommie Lee Lewis, Jr., joined the United States Air Force. He furthered his education at Miami Dade Junior College, where he majored in Business Administration / Accounting. 

In 1972, Hommie Lee Lewis, Jr., married Carolyn Ann Delancey Lewis and to this union two children were born: Carlotta Lewis and Lawrence Calvin Lewis. 

In 1976, Hommie Lee Lewis, Jr., was employed with the International Longshoremen Association (ILA) Local 1416 for over forty years. He began working in the hole and later became a Laborer and a Porter until his retirement. 

Hommie was self-determined. His hobbies and passions included fishing at the Port in Biscayne Bay before Bayside Marketplace was ever established. It was Hommie’s happy place for rest, relaxation, tranquility, and peace. He also enjoyed playing video games and telling great jokes. Hommie was always full of laughter. 

He was preceded in death by his father: Hommie Lee Lewis, Sr.; mother, Lucy Mae McKenzie Lewis; stepmother, Maggie Lewis; two sisters, Gloria Lewis and Paulette Diane Ballard; and one brother, Richard Lewis. 

 A loving memory will forever be cherished by his children, one daughter, Carlotta Lewis Cato, and one son, Lawrence Calvin Lewis, Sr. (April); one sister, Mary Pearl Lewis Warren of Miami, Florida; four brothers, Alfonso Moffett of Miami, Florida, Aldolphus “Pooney” Moffett of Miami, Florida, Allen Moffett of Starke, Florida, and Emmanuel Lewis of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; eight grandchildren, Lawrence Calvin Lewis, Jr., Oluwajuwon Gbolade, Isaiah Kamari Lewis, Ayoola Gbolade, Kyndall Breann Lewis, Donnell White, Jr., Ajaih Jahnece Lewis, and Indya Lauren Lewis; a special cousin, Dorothy Campbell Harvey of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; a loving and devoted friend, Sharon Diane Clark of Miami, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates, co-workers, and friends.
