Obituary
In the early morning of February 11, 2024, at Hialeah Hospital, James Rufus Smalls passed from time to eternity after a long Christian and civic life.
He was born on June 18, 1952, in South Carolina to the union of Isaac Smalls, Sr., and Mae Sena Smalls. He finished his education of 12 years in South Carolina at Berkeley High School. Following his high school graduation, he came to Miami, FL. He immediately took a job as an engineer. He was a loving, devoted father who cared greatly for and others.
He was blessed with four children and seven grandchildren, son, Frederick Smalls of Georgia, Sheretta Smalls of Miami, FL, Dr. Windy Ballard of Miami, FL, and Tammy Ballard of Miami, FL, Kendal Smalls, Sarai Smalls, Jaylen, Wilbur, Jaelyn, and Jakari Wilson, Josiah Joseph, and Jaiden Henry of Miami, FL; two sisters, Vernial R. Smalls of South Carolina and Barbara Smalls Gibbs of Miami, FL; Alphonzo Smalls of Miami, FL, Frederick Smalls of Miami, FL, Clarence Smalls of New York, and Benjamin Earl Smalls of New York; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
