Obituary
With profound sorrow and deep love, we announce the passing of our beloved Janiah Kennice Sands, affectionately known as "TUTU," who left us far too soon on September 17, 2025, just three days shy of her 20th birthday.
Born on September 20, 2005, Janiah was a radiant soul whose joy, laughter, and infectious humor lit up every room she entered. Her love for music and dancing was more than just a hobby; it was how she expressed the purest parts of herself. She found her greatest joy in the simple moments—sharing laughs, creating memories, and being surrounded by the people she loved.
Janiah was an exceptionally bright and motivated young woman. An accelerated scholar throughout her school years, she most recently attended St. Thomas University, where she pursued her dream of becoming a nurse. Her intelligence, compassion, and dedication promised a bright future; one committed to caring for others and making the world a better place.
She leaves behind a heartbroken but forever grateful family: her loving mother, Michelle Butler; her devoted father, Kenneth Sands; maternal grandmother, Rosemary Butler; and paternal grandmother, Matilda Sands. Janiah was a cherished sister to Jessica Robinson, Jassmine Vail, Janaye Vail, and Tantanisha Slaughte; nephews and nieces to whom she was a proud and playful aunt, Jaivon Alexander, Jervarrest Walls, and Aayden Whitehead, and A'niyah Robinson, Ja'Nyiila Cannida (15), Quin'Nique Howard (12), and Ma'laun Watson (7), each of whom adored their Auntie TUTU and will carry her spirit with them always.
Though her time on Earth was brief, Janiah's impact was profound. Her light, laughter, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her.
