Obituary
The wonderful and beloved Jerry Prater was born April 3, 1956, at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL, to the late James Prater and Laura Bell Sykes. Being the youngest of seven children, after his mother passed he was raised by his father and older siblings.
At a young age, he experienced hardship but despite the difficulties, he overcame and never let a hard time bring him down. Jerry attended Miami-Dade County public schools, and in 1974, he graduated from Miami Northwestern Senior High School. After completing high school, he worked various meaningful jobs to support himself and his family.
Later in life, he met Claudine Richardson, his loving companion. The spark between them produced a beautiful baby girl whom they adored.
Jerry departed this life on Tuesday, June 13, 2023. He leaves to mourn: his lovely daughter, Shardeena Prater; companion, Claudine Richardson; four sisters, Ida Prater, Clara Prater Duncan, Diann Prater, and Gwendolyn Prater of Miami, FL; he also leaves to mourn a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
