Obituary

Joseph Shanks, Jr., was born on October 17, 1948, in Jacksonville, Florida to Joseph Shanks, Sr. and Lillie Belle Shanks. He was the first born of three siblings.

Joseph attended Miami Dade public schools. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the US Army. He entered into marriage with Betty Adams (divorced). That marriage produced three children, Joseph III, Buffie L. Shanks, and Alshorn Shanks.

Joseph was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Shanks, Sr. and mother, Lillie Bell Shanks.

Joseph is survived by his sons, Joseph Shanks III and Alshorn Shanks (Chawntelle); daughter, Buffie L. Shanks Curry; brother, Michael Shanks (Adrienne); sister, Charlotte Pitts (Willie); granddaughters, Victoria, Jazmine, Paris, and Tatiana; grandsons, Nicholas, James, and Allen; nine great-grands; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
