Obituary

Joyce C. Burroughs was born Joyce Ann Chambliss, in Miami, FL on September 13, 1949, to two loving parents, Johnny and Priscilla Chambliss. Joyce was raised as an only child and later learned she had a brother, Calvin and sister, Louise (both deceased).

Joyce attended St. Paul A.M.E. Church all her life. Joyce received her education first at Miami Northwestern, Sr. High and transferred and graduated from Miami Central Sr. High in 1967. She then attended Knoxville College in Knoxville, TN, and graduated in 1972.

Joyce started her first job at Bellsouth/Southern Bell in Miami. She was one of the first women in Miami at the time, to be trained to climb the Phone Poles and fix the wires, so customs could have phone service.

Joyce married David Burroughs (deceased) in 1972 and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Jameil in 1973. Joyce lived a fulfilling life, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, neighbor, and friend to many wonderful people.

On April 19, 2024, the Lord called her home to be with her family that passed on before her. She has lived, loved, and left a ton of memories to keep.

She leaves behind: a daughter, Jameil; four grandchildren, Cory, Tre’, Janiya, and Ja’shawn; three great-grands, Christopher, Maliyah, and Malone; cousins, in-laws, great friends, and neighbors who will all miss and cherish her greatly.
