Obituary

Kevin D. Reed was born on August 18, 1959, in Jacksonville, Florida, to William and Miriam Reed. He was later raised in Miami, Florida, where his roots were firmly planted and where many of the experiences that shaped his life began.

He proudly served in the United States Army, during which time he met his beloved wife, Violet, beginning a partnership that would grow into a lasting family.

As a skilled HVAC technician, Kevin owned and operated his own business, taking pride in his work and in being someone others could rely on. He was known for his sharp common sense, his ability to figure things out, and his willingness to step in when something needed fixing, whether it was a system, a situation, or simply offering guidance.

Outside of work, Kevin brought life into every room. He was a jokester, always ready with humor that could lighten even the heaviest moments. A passionate and often outspoken University of Miami fan, he never shied away from a good debate, especially when it came to his team.

To his family, Kevin held many roles. He was a loving and devoted husband, a father whose presence and care shaped those around him, and a proud godfather, uncle, and brother who showed up with both strength and responsibility. He was the kind of neighbor people could count on, and a quiet leader in his own way—someone who led not with perfection, but with consistency, experience, and a lot of heart.

Kevin was a man of many layers, known in different ways by those who loved him. He showed up in his own way, in many ways. He gave what he could, how he could, and to many, that meant everything. Throughout his life, he built meaningful relationships that extended far beyond family. He had a way of connecting with people, leaving an impression that will not be forgotten. The stories, the laughter, and the moments shared with him will continue to live on through all who knew him.

Kevin’s life was not defined by just one role or one version of himself. He was evolving, learning, and becoming, like all of us. And through it all, it was from love. Not always simple, not always easy, but present and deeply felt.

He passed away on March 19, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of connection, resilience, and a community of people who will deeply miss him.

He is lovingly survived by his beloved wife, Violet Reed; his children, Zinnia Reed, Zechari Reed, Kevin Reed, Jr., Kyumani Reed, and Iman Reed; and his cherished godchildren, Jasmine Prosper, Messiah Wilson, Noah Dixon, Trajarha Prosper, Jai’yah Echavarria, Jahzzel Echavarria, and Sannise Crosby. He also leaves behind a loving family who will continue to honor his memory, along with a wide circle of extended family, relatives, friends, and loved ones whose lives were touched by his presence.

While his passing leaves an undeniable void, his life remains in the connections he built, the lessons he left behind, and the love that continues through those who knew him.
