Obituary

On January 28th, 1960, Lawrence Barthell was born into the Union of Love between John L. and Pollie Mae Barthell as the middle child of five.

Lawrence's education began at West Little River Elementary School and continued to Arcola Lakes Elementary. He later attended Horace Mann Middle and Miami Central Senior High, where he graduated with the class of 1978. During his time at Miami Central he was an esteemed basketball player who played in the 1978 State Championship basketball game. After graduation, Lawrence continued his education at Junior College for two years.

He began working at Associate Groceries in the early ‘80s, which later became Unifi where he worked for over 30 years. Lawrence retired from working in March of 2025.

In the early ‘80s, Lawrence met Mary Gairs and during that time his beautiful princess, Lashawnie Barthell, was born.

Lawrence Barthell leaves to cherish a lifetime of precious memories: a devoted, precious daughter, Lashawn Barthell; beloved granddaughter, Shanell; sister, Catherine Fulmore; brother, John L. Jr. (wife) Shirley; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, many cousins, friends, and other relatives.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, John and Pollie Barthell, and his beloved sisters, Gloria J. Barthell and Carol Morgan. Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow we rejoice that Lawrence’s race is complete. His life of faith, love, compassion, and service along with his beautiful smile and gentle spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Lawrence: God rewards people who use their time, skills, and resources honestly and faithfull to honor him during their lives.
