Obituary
Leonard Barnes was born on August 4, 1928, to Adina Pedley and David Barnes in Clarendon, Jamaica. Leonard grew up in Clarendon, Jamaica, working in the Sugar Factory as a teen. Leonard lived a full and vibrant life with his kindness, wisdom, and unweaving devotion to his family, and that it led him to the United States of America to the big city of Miami, Florida.
Though a man of small stature and few words, Leonard possessed an immerse heart and unweaving stance, always holding fast to his beliefs. He commanded respect and adoration from all who came to know him. Strong, independent, and caring, he often sacrificed his own needs for those he loved. As a storehouse of wisdom, he imparted adorable life lessons to his children, grandchildren, and friends. He was firm in his beliefs and steadfast in his values.
As a young man of integrity, always offering support and guidance to those he loved and his Jamaican roots. Leonard’s greatest passion was working with his hands, particularly landscaping, where he found joy in shaping and transforing nature. His timeless work ethic, love for the outdoors, and ability to create beauty from the Earth left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
As predestined and in accordance with God’s plan on December 1, 2024, Leonard Barens, Sr., heeded his father’s call, stepping out of time and into eternity. Waiting to welcome a new soldier were loved ones who transitioned before him: sister, Dorothy Barnes; children, Quantia Curry-Golden, and Donald Jones, Sr.
Leonard leaves to cherish fond memories with him: his wife, Gladiest Barnes; children, Sylburn (Imekla), Beverly (Hubert), Orville (Lisette), Garfield (Pasima), Roham (Althia), Jennifer, Sheryl (Maggalle) Leonard Jr. (Brenda), Donald (Marena), Antwon, Laquinette, Lorraine, Travone, and Nykia; and a host of grands, great-grandchildren, and friends who were touched by his generosity and spirit. Leonard’s legacy of compassion, humor, and love will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
