Obituary
Lizzie Mae Bruton was born on October 25, 1929, in Forest Glenn, Georgia, to proud parents, the late Tommie and Dora White. She was the oldest of her late brother born to that union.
“Liz”, as she was called by those who knew her best, grew up as a little girl under very adverse circumstances, as did most people of her age during that time (1929). When speaking of her upbringing, she said, “Life was ruff.” She often talked about riding a horse and buggy. She would work in the field with the cows; she had a favorite cow she drank milk from.
Her family relocated to Miami, Florida, in 1931. Liz attended Miami Dade Public School, where she met many friends. She was very outspoken, had a passion for dancing. She lived a sociable life. As she got older, she loved to watch cowboy movies, listen to jazz, and read her Bible. Liz retired after 20 years of service as a caregiver working for a family that dearly loved her.
As a young adult, she joined Greater Historic Bethel A.M.E. Church of Miami, Florida.
