Obituary

Lois “Irene” Cochran was born on November 25, 1940, in Vidalia, Georgia, to her parents, Rebecca and Jack Coney. Lois had one sibling, Gloria B., who preceded her in death. She migrated to Utica, New York, at a very young age. Later, her family relocated to Miami, Florida.

As a young girl, Lois joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Liberty City under the leadership of Reverend Foster. Years later, Lois moved her membership to Antioch of Brownsville under the leadership of J. W. Stevenson. There, she joined the usher board.

Lois attended D. A. Dorsey High School. During her early adulthood, she met her husband, Lawrence Cochran. They married in 1957 and united three beautiful children, Valerie Cochran, the late Lawrence “Chris” Cochran, and the late Robin Latricia Cochran.

Lois worked diligently with her husband to ensure her family was cared for.

Later, Lois attended Miami Lakes Education Technical College. There, she studied and received her cosmetology license. Upon that, she decided to further her education and enroll at Florida Memorial College, receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education which landed her at Biscayne Elementary where she taught first and second-grade students. Teaching was her passion. She taught there until retirement.

Lois “Irene” is survived by her daughter, Valerie Bess; grandchildren, Ulysses Cochran, Idaisha Lee, Christopher Bess, Tarri T. J. Cochran, and I’King Cochran; and a host of nieces and nephews.
