Obituary

A Time To Be Born:
On March 4, 1938 Joe Louis White was born to the parentage of Lottie Mae & Johnny White, Sr. in Yonges Island, South Carolina. Joe shared an unbreakable bond among sixteen siblings that remained strong for a lifetime until his demise. From very early in life the family was taught the importance of unconditional love for each other.

A Time To Learn & Serve:
Brother White was affectionately known as “Joe” and will also be fondly remembered as “Louis” to   other friends, acquaintances and family members. Joe Louis received his formal education in the Charleston County School System where he graduated from Baptist Hill High School before entering the military.

As a youth Louis began his spiritual education in Bluffton, SC, at the First Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Elijah McTeer where he attended prior to joining the Department of the Army,  receiving an honorable discharge. Joe became employment with the United States Postal Service in  early 1970 as a mail handler. He later became a coordinator for Quality Work Life program and before be elected as President of the  Mail handler’s Union. Brother White with Christian experience joined Saint Paul AME Church in Miami, Florida under the leadership of Pastor Kelly, Samuel L. Gay and later Presiding Elder Pastor Vincent Mitchell where he served in many capacities over many years. Brother White’s service to the uplifting of God’s kingdom was an important assignment and a charge he kept until his health began to fail under the leadership of Pastor Robert Jackson, lll.

A Time To Love:
Mr. Joe Louis White met and married his first love Mazzie “Ozzie” Gaddist of Ridgeville, SC who preceded him in death on March 28, 1993.
 
In the book of Genesis 2:18 the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone, I will make a helper suitable for him.”  On June 27th 2005 Portia Denise Edwards & Joe Louis White were joined in Holy Matrimony. Portia preceded him in death on July 8th 2014.
 
On Wednesday morning, October 30th, 2024, our Heavenly Father relieved Joe Louis White of his earthly struggles and illnesses as he transitioned peacefully to be with the Lord. He left this earthly life to live healthy in eternal peace with his Father God in Heaven.
 
Joe White was preceded in death by parents Lottie & Johnny White, Sr., 3 sisters Bernice, Rosabell and Willie Mae; 6 brothers, Herman Freeman, Harold, Johnny “Ike” Jr., Henry, Moses and Thomas “Mel” White.
 
A Time To Mourn:
He leaves to cherish loving memories with daughters Mildred Gaddist, Sherri Dixon (Mark); son Jonathan Edwards of Daytona; two sisters, Alma “Rena” Miller of Miami; Pearlie White Johnson of North Charleston, SC; four brothers Charles; Raymond (Marie); James “Jimmy” White of New York and Willis White of Hollywood, SC; two sister-in-laws, Deidre Butler and Erin Patton (Theodore); one brother in law Jeffrey Edwards; 3 grands, Kenya Gaddist, Shaterri Simmons, and Chanell Paulk; four great grands, Kayana Gaddist, Queshaun Simmons, Amari Lowe, Noah London, two Goddaughters Jan Singleton Pierre and Olivia Coaxum, a special cousin Tiny Green and Brother Homer Williams a special friend and a host of other grieving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Beloved friend Ruby Singleton will forever hold Joe Louis White dear in her heart.
