Obituary

Marie Williams Burrows was born on May 21, 1943, in Miami, Florida, to the late Jimmie Williams and Calvin Maude Banks Williams. She was the third of eight children, growing up alongside her beloved siblings, James Williams, Louis Williams (Angela, deceased), Jerome Williams (Mammie), Vernall Williams-Tate (Sylvester, deceased), Daniel Williams (Valerie), Laverne Baldwin (James), and Robert Williams. All five of her brothers preceded her in death.

Marie attended George Washington Carver High School in Coconut Grove, where she was an active alumni member of the class of 1961. She later continued her education in beauty school and private duty registry, dedicating her life to serving others with care and compassion.

Soon after, she met and married the love of her life, George Burrows, in March of 1964. They remained devoted to each other, fulfilling their vows "'til death do us part." Together, they built a beautiful family, raising seven children: Sandra B. Stewart (Andrew, deceased), Priscilla A. Burrows (Andy), Felicia M. Jackson (DeWayne), Emmanuel Burrows (Doris), Keith Burrows (LaTonya), Daryl L. Burrows, and Tranilya A. Burrows (Denise).

Being raised in Coconut Grove, Miami, Florida, Marie accepted Christ at an early age, attending services at various churches in her neighborhood as a child. Her faith remained prevalent throughout her life. Over the years, she was a faithful and active member of New Hope Baptist Church, Peaceful Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. C.P. Preston Sr., and Abysinnia Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Curtis McCoy. As time went on and she was no longer able to attend church physically as she once did, she held services in her living room, worshipping and listening to her favorite gospel singer, Lee Williams and The Spiritual QCs.

Marie had a warm and joyful spirit, a true talent and passion for cooking, and a knack for telling funny stories and jokes. It was almost guaranteed that if you were in her presence, you would enjoy a good meal and a good laugh. She found joy in spending time with her loved ones, playing cards for fun, completing her crossword books, and indulging in her favorite pastime—shopping.

On Friday, March 21, 2025, Mrs. Marie Burrows joined her Heavenly Father in eternal rest. She leaves to cherish her memory two sisters, Vernall and Laverne; seven children; 26 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Madeline Major (Percy), Maria Dorsett (Jimmy). She is also survived by a host of dearly loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever hold her close in their hearts.

Though she is no longer with us, the love, laughter, and faith she shared will remain a guiding light in the lives of all who knew and loved her. A love and legacy that will never be forgotten.
