Obituary

Marilyn Way, born Marilyn Cooper on November 3, 1954, in Miami, Florida, to the late Emma Cooper and the late Junior Sheffield, passed away on March 31, 2026, at Aventura Hospital after a long and courageous battle with kidney failure. She lived her entire life in Miami. She was educated in Miami-Dade County Public Schools and attended Miami Central High School. Marilyn worked as an aftercare instructor, where her love for children was evident in her care and dedication.

Marilyn was a woman of cleanliness who cherished time with family and friends, often hosting gatherings and cookouts. She shared a special bond with her childhood best friend, Bloneva Ingraham, who was like a sister, and her husband, Henry Moore-both of whom preceded her in death. Known for her tough love and outspoken nature - "Mrs. Way will have her way."

She was a caring mother to her children, Quanita Way and Donell Henry Way Sr. Her son began caring for her at a young age, forming a deep bond, and she was never far behind wherever he went. Through life's storms, tribulations, and complications, their bond remained strong as he stood by her side with unwavering care and devotion. She would often ask "Do you love mommy?" And without hesitation he would always respond "Of course I do, Ma."

She lived for many years with her close friend, Ella Davis, who became her Sister in Christ in 2008; they were inseparable, sharing love, family, and many memories.

In 2015, Marilyn embraced one of her greatest joys-becoming a grandmother to her Donell Henry Way Jr., and again in 2017 to Daniella Angel Lee Way. She adored her grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them. Whether it was weekends together or simply being in their presence, she found happiness in caring for and spoiling them. In return, her grandchildren showed her love and care, especially during times when her strength was limited.

Marilyn fought kidney failure for 34 years with strength and resilience.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Quanita "Coda" Way; her son, Donell Henry Way Sr. (fiancé Erma Lee); her beloved grandchildren, Donell Henry Way Jr. and Daniella Angel Lee Way; her niece, Sharonda Ingraham Moore; her goddaughter, Carlina Williams; her cousins, Alarnetta Thompson, Dawn Henry, Darryl Henry, Johnny Upshaw (wife Rosly Upshaw), Elaine King, Shericka Moore (husband Terrence Moore, Alabama), and Reginald Henry; her Sister in Christ, Ella Davis; her children in Christ, Valerie and Kenny; her close friends, Darlene, Essie, and Diane; 7 God given grandchildren; and a host of cousins and friends.
Marilyn's resilience, love, and unwavering spirit will never be forgotten, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
