Obituary
Marion Chess was born November 18, 1949, in Miami, Florida, as the firstborn child of Ervin Chess and Rebecca Peeples Chess.
Marion’s religious growth and development began at an early age under the tutelage of his parents. As a child, he along with the family attended St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorship of the late Reverend P. W. Williams.
Marion attended the Miami Dade County public school system, Poinciana Elementary, James Weldon Johnson Elementary, Miami Springs Middle, Miami Springs High, and eventually graduated from Miami Northwestern Senior High School. After high school, Marion worked for the Florida Department of Justice in the Juvenile Detention Services and as a correctional officer in Atlanta, Georgia. He eventually grew a fond interest in trucking and transportation which forged a new career path in entrepreneurship. For over 20 years, Marion owned and operated his own trucking company.

On July 14, 2023, Marion transitioned into the arms of his Heavenly Father.
Marion’s most cherished memories will always be that of his boisterous laugh, being a prankster and his willingness to always lend a helping hand. Finally, he had a love for traveling all over the world as well as dining out which were his most peaceful moments.
Marion was preceded in death by his father, Ervin Chess; mother, Rebecca Chess; younger brother, Percy Ronald Chess; and younger sister, Annie Chess Graham.
Marion is survived by his three children, Sonia Chess of Miami, Florida, Marion Chess, Jr., of Allendale, South Carolina, and Sabrina Chess of Gulfport, Mississippi; four grandchildren, Kletner Anderson, Larawn Washington, and Dr. Laquan Chess, all of Miami, Florida, and Mariona Chess of Allendale, South Carolina; one great-grandchild, Karter Anderson; siblings, Reverend Elouise Chess (Reverend Lem) Williams of Charlotte, North Carolina, Pastor Lucritia Ann Gibson of Allendale, South Carolina, and Erwin Stanley Chess of Atlanta, Georgia; and a host of nephews, nieces, and other family members.
Marion, you will forever be in our hearts!
