Obituary

Mary Ann Charadan was born on June 26, 1957, in Manning, South Carolina to the late Moultrie Witherspoon and Marian Severance. She was the eldest of her mother’s two children.

Mary received her education through the Dade County Public Schools system where she graduated from Miami Jackson High School in 1976. While in school, she graced the stage in Modern Dance and the field as a cheerleader.

Mary went on to obtain her education in Early Childhood Education. She dedicated over twenty years to the City of Miami’s Daycare Division. In her time there she was a Daycare Teacher, Supervisor, and Specialist. She also worked parttime as a modern dance teacher at Charles R. Drew Elementary. She loved working with children. The children were her passion and drive to work every day.

For fun, Mary enjoyed dancing, fishing, traveling, playing cards, and dominoes. She used to go dancing on Soul Train with her Uncle Amos. Every time you looked around, she was on flight or cruise to somewhere. Don’t allow the innocent face to fool you, she kicked butt in a game of Tunk. She always told us about a time she won a car in a Tunk game.

Mary was a loving daughter, mother, niece, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cousin. It brought her joy and happiness to help all her family and friends. No matter how big or small, she was always there.

On October 23, 2023, Mary Charadan departed this life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marian Barnhill (Bobbie), Moultrie Witherspoon; grandparents, James and Ellen R. Severance; brother, James Edward Severance; uncles, Alvin Lee, Timothy Andrew, James Severance Jr., Allen Servance; and son, Jorge Charadan II.

She leaves behind a lifetime of memories to her daughter, Margarita Velazquez (Estevan), grandchildren, Victoria Covington, Laila Velazquez, Estevan Velazquez Jr., Kenesha Velazquez, and Naomi Velazquez; Great-grandchildren, Keddrick Ford Jr., Demaria Velazquez, Spring Velazquez, Keith Jones Jr., Rico Jones, Sosa Jones, and Kalani Jones and a host of loving uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
