Obituary

Mary Emma Stephens-Belton was born on May 19, 1935, in Marion, Alabama, to Earnest and Sandra Billingsley. She was one of nine children, seven of whom preceded her in death. After several years in Alabama, Mary moved to Miami, FL; she met her first husband, James Auther Stephens, more than 68 years ago. Their union produced four children. Mary later in life met her second love, Eddie Belton, Sr., and in this union, there was one child, Eddie Jeffery Belton.

Mary pursued a career at Dade County public school system for over 35 years while working a second job at a T-shirt factory.

While her health began deteriorating shortly after retirement, Mary, better known as “Big Bae” to her sister, brothers, and family, remained. But after several months of being in and out of the hospital, the Lord called her home to glory on February 8, 2025. She was 89 years old.

Left to mourn her passing are her children, James Billingsley, Arthur Stephens, Beverly Woodson, Yvonne Godfrey, Eddie Belton, and Raina Woodson; plus a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; along with her loving sister, Mary Brooks; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
