Obituary
Melvin was a dedicated husband, loving father, and exceptional member of his community. He is survived by his devoted wife, Christine Davis Breedlove; together, Christine and Melvin raised five children, Melvin Breedlove, Jr., Veronica Jordan, James Fewquay, Bertram Davis, and Maurice Breedlove; Melvin leaves behind many loved ones including but not limited to his two sisters, Odeen Kendrick and Odessa Kendrick; sisters-in-law, Eula Mae Roan, Margaret Wright, and Earlie Reed; brother-in-law, Avon Davis; and Melvin also had a host of beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Elois.
Melvin graduated from Miami Springs High School in 1966. After high school, he proudly served in the United States Army until 1970. During those years, Melvin was one of the 8.7 million soldiers who fought in the Vietnam War in 1969. Honorably, Melvin received a number of recognitions while serving; however, the one he was most pleased by was the Purple Heart medal of honor he received for his bravery and sacrifice while in a line of duty. After his military service, Melvin met Christine “Deedee’’ Davis and married in 1973. Melvin previously fell in love with the city of Philadelphia and he and Christine decided to make it their home.
There, he gained employment as a Production Operator at Fluid Energy where he made many strong and lasting friendships with a company that treated him like family. He was given many opportunities for advancement and was proud of his accomplishments until he retired in 2000. After 21 years in Philadelphia, Melvin decided to return back to his roots in Miami, and for the next 24 years, he spent his time doing the things he enjoyed most like fishing, playing pool, and spending time with the people he loved.
Melvin’s departure comes as a great shock and a deep wound, and it is gravely felt by his entire family and countless others who loved him deeply. Now that Melvin has passed into the arms of our Lord, his physical life on earth is over, but it is the beginning of an eternal and beautiful journey for him.
Rest In Peace, Melvin.
