Obituary
Melvin Samuel Cockroft III, AKA “MJ,” was born November 2, 2012, to Melvin Cockroft, Jr., and Samantha Whimley. MJ began his schooling at Bethune Elementary and proceeded to Barbara Hawkins Elementary from Pre-K to 5th grade. He was a straight “A” student who took pride in his academic success. In addition to excelling in his studies, MJ was also a member of 5000 Role Model and a student athlete. He played optimist football for the Miami Gardens Ravens. MJ spent his free time playing video games online with his friends and creating the latest TikTok video. MJ was loved and appreciated by many. His affectionate smile and humble personality touched the lives of everyone he encountered. He was a great kid. The love he gave to the ones he cared about was endless. On Monday night, September 25, 2023, the Angel of Mercy quietly called his precious child home to rest. May he rest in peace. MJ was preceded in death by his grandparents, Linda Mae Whimley, Mary Ann Gibson-Cockroft, and Melvin Cockroft Sr. MJ leaves behind to cherish his memories: his father, Melvin Cockroft, Jr.; mother, Samantha Whimley; stepmom, Andrea Cockroft; sister, Skylah Brown; brother, Jeremiah Whimley; grandfather, Clarence Blackman, Sr.; grandmother, Quechell King; aunts, Shawntrell Blackman, Shatavia Blackman, Sheneka Blackman-Moody, and Christina Mattis; uncles, Marcus Cockroft, Armani Coulson, and Clarence Blackman, Jr.; godmother, Alexis Johnson; godsister, A’mani Johnson; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, close friends, and family friends.
