Obituary
Nellie Ruth Dumant was born on July 20, 1955, in Lyons, GA, to Bernice Mac and Benny Slaton.
She was raised by her grandmother, Rosa Lee Harris, until the age of 14. On her 14th birthday, she moved to Miami, FL, to live with her mother, Bernice Wimberly, and stepfather, Jerry Wimberly.
In 1973, she was blessed with a son and went on to complete high school at American School Charter in 1978.
Nellie began her career at Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1981 in the environmental services department. A year later, she switched to the medical records department and that’s where she remained for 34 years until her retirement in May of 2016.
In 1982, she met Terry Dumant. The two married in 1984 and had two beautiful daughters.
Nellie had a love for music. She would sing in the church choir or stand alone as a soloist. She loved to shop and wear stylish clothes, and she enjoyed being a grandmother to her three grandchildren. She loved her family and friends, but above all, she loved the Lord.
On July 10, 2023, Nellie was called to glory to be with the Lord. Nellie was preceded in death by her mother, Bernice Wimberly; sister, Brenda Wimberly; and son, Toderick Williams.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Terry Dumant; children, Terrilyn Dumant and Tiffany Dumant; grandchildren, Asharrah Jean Gilles, Brianna James, and Christian Dumant; stepfather, Jerry Wimberly; siblings, Stephanie Wimberly, Michelle Wimberly, Maria Wimberly, Rose Wimberly, Corenzo Kent, Roderick Wimberly, Jeremiah Wimberly, and Amber Wimberly; nieces, Nicole Brown, Zarina and Zephanie Peacock, Elvira, Erica, Vermanie Wimberly, Shedricka Holmes, Shante Brown, Susan Pariago, Veron (Charles) Francis, and Anne-Marie Pariago; nephews, Roderick (Anitra) Lopez, Rodney Ricky, Eli Wimberly, Zachery Peacock II, Ishmeal Beatty, and D’Angelo Jamison; close family friend, Gladys Brown; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
