Obituary

Otis Temple Dowell, Jr., was born on April 11, 1959, in Manhattan, New York, to the late Nancy Emily Rivers-Harris and the late Otis Temple Dowell, Sr. At the age of five, Otis moved to Miami, Florida with his mother and stepfather, Lawrence Harris, Jr.

Otis received his education from Miami Dade County public schools, where he attended Shadowlawn Elementary School, Edison Middle School, Edison Senior High School, and was a graduate of Miami Northwestern Senior High School, Class of 1977. He furthered his education at Miami Dade Community College, North Campus, majoring in Business Administration.

Otis loved music; singing and playing the drums were his passion. He was a drummer in the band at Miami Edison and Miami Northwestern Senior High Schools.

Otis worked for various employers such as Hertz Car Rental, Miami Dade College, Miami Jewish Home, and Mercy Hospital, where he served faithfully. He retired from Mercy Hospital in 2020.

Otis accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was baptized at Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend William H. Washington, Sr.

On Tuesday, August 22, 2023, the heavenly father decided to call him home. He was a father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many. He will be missed, and his impact will never be forgotten.

Otis leaves to cherish his memories: his loving daughter, Trenavia Dowell; granddaughter, Laniya Eiland; sisters, Sharon Rivers-Poestimes (Antonio Poestimes) and Gwendolyn Harris-Mike (RL Mike); brother, Sherman Rivers; matriarch cousin, Ida Mae Owens-Walker; loving nieces, Latoya, Armani, and Krystal; nephew, Antonio Jr.; and a host of extended family, cousins, and friends.
