Obituary
Peggy Ann Hampton, a beloved mother, grandmother, educator, and avid lover of life, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on February 22, 2024, at the age of 78.
Born on December 20, 1945, to Margaret North and Otis North (step father), Peggy grew up in Barnesville, Georgia as an only child. There is where Peggy developed her strong values of resilience, compassion, and dedication.
Peggy graduated from Booker High School with honors in 1963 at the age of 16. She was a student athlete who obtained a track and basketball scholarship to Albany State. After graduating at the age of 20 she relocated to Miami, Florida where she pursued her passion for education. Eventually becoming a Science and P.E. teacher for Miami Dade Public Schools for 47 years.
During her tenure as an educator, Peggy touched the lives of countless students with her wisdom, kindness, and unwavering dedication. Her impact extended far beyond the classroom, as she instilled in her students a love for learning and a belief in their own potential.
In addition to her career in education, Peggy was a devoted mother to her two sons, Adrian, and Len Hampton, whom she loved dearly. Though her marriage ended in divorce, she poured her heart and soul into raising her sons, imparting upon them the values of integrity, hard work, and compassion.
Outside of her professional and family life, Peggy had a passion for fishing and attending sporting events. She found peace and joy in nature, spending countless hours casting her line into the water. She was also a dedicated sports fan, cheering on the Miami Dolphins and the Florida Marlins with unwavering enthusiasm.
Peggy will be remembered for her love of making good ole home cooked meals and her enjoyment of the casino ambiance. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Peggy is now reunited with her mother Margret and stepfather Otis North. She was also preceded by her grandmother Emma Jo Brown (Big Momma).
