Obituary

Born on May 20, 1951, in Statesboro, Georgia, Nathan was the beloved son of Nathan Robertson and Ruthie Mae (Phillips) Robertson. Following the passing of his father, Nathan and his family relocated to Savannah, Georgia, where his mother pursued a career in nursing. There, Ruthie found love again and married Charlie Coleman, Sr., who lovingly adopted Nathan as his own.

Nathan excelled in his studies, completing his primary and secondary education in the Chatham County School District, graduating in 1966. Eager to forge his own path, he briefly attended Job Corps before answering the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. As Private Coleman, he courageously completed a tour in Vietnam, earning numerous combat veteran medals in recognition of his bravery and dedication.

Upon returning to Savannah, Nathan embarked on a diverse and accomplished career. He honed his skills as a welder at Great Dane before relocating to Miami, Florida, where he found his passion for helping others. His service extended to the Randle Eastern Ambulance Service and later to social work, where he made a lasting impact as a child abuse investigator.

However, it was in the ministry that Nathan discovered his true calling. His journey as a man of God began at St. Paul AME Church in Miami, Florida, where he nurtured his gift for preaching and guiding others in faith. Over the years, he shepherded multiple congregations, providing spiritual leadership and unwavering support to all who sought his wisdom.

His passion for both ministry and service led him to pursue higher education, culminating in a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. His career at the Broward County Sheriff’s Office spanned 35 years, where he touched countless lives through his dedication to mental health and community outreach.

In his well-earned retirement, Nathan embraced life’s joys with his beloved fiancée, Elease Hill. Together, they traveled across the United States and abroad, indulging in their shared love for gospel plays, gospel concerts, and Black Rodeos. Through every journey, Elease remained faithfully by his side, a testament to their deep and enduring bond.

Reverend Doctor Nathan Robertson Coleman leaves behind a loving family and a community forever grateful for his presence. His memory will be cherished by his fiancée, Elease Hill of El Dorado, AR; sisters, Brenda Palmer of Miami, FL, and Eveond (Robert) McCann of Port Saint Lucie, FL; brothers, Charlie (Beverly) Coleman, Jr., of Chouteau, OK, and Charles Coleman of Savannah, GA; nephews, Darrell Coleman, Charles Fields Coleman, Cameron McCann, and Carson McCann; niece, Christen McCann; and a host of special children, including Kenneth Hall, Kendra Hall Parker, Sylvester Davis, Sharabean Hill, Na’Cheal Brown, and Sherita Fraizer. He is also survived by a vast network of cousins, family members, and dear friends, each of whom carries a piece of his love and wisdom in their hearts.

“Well done, good and faithful servant... Enter into the joy of your Lord.”
- Matthew 25:23
