Obituary

On November 27, 1960, Robert Willie Gillis, Sr., also known as Skip, was born to the late Lousie Polly Gillis and John Wesley Gillis. He was born and raised in Miami, FL, and accepted Christ at an early age and attended Jordan Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Skip later joined Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Hallandale Beach, FL in 2001.
Skip attended Allapattah Elementary, Robert E. Lee Middle School, and graduated from Miami Jackson Senior High School in 1978. After high school, Skip preceded to join the US Navy. After the Navy, Skip started working for Florida Power and Light for almost 12 years. He later left FPL and started working for Jordan High Voltage and remained with the company until early 2023.
Upon leaving the Navy in 1983, he later met Sharon Bentley, who he made his wife from 1984-1998 and to this union, two children were born, Robert Willie Gillis, Jr., and Keishae Sharell Gillis. Skip later met Brenda Montgomery, married her in 2003, and she preceded him in death in 2017. Michelle Fowler was Skip’s middle school crush. They reunited in 2018, engaged in 2020, and married on May 27, 2023. 
After an extended illness, Skip was placed in hospice care where he was tended by his wife, Michelle Fowler-Gillis. The angel came for him at his home on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at 12:00am and went home with them. He leaves to mourn: his wife, Michell Folwer-Gillis; two children, Robert Willie Gillis, Jr., and Keishae Sharell Gills; stepdaughter, Monique Messer; grandchildren, Marquis Mitchell, Keyon Mitchell, and Kaliyah Lewis; sisters, Lillie R. Johnson and Sarah Gillis; god-daughter, Nyshel Mckenzie, and a host of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
