Obituary

Roderick Lorenzo Richardson, 50 years old, of Miami, Florida, passed away on January 10, 2026 at home. He was born on St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, on July 20, 1975, to his loving parents, Richard and Cheryl Richardson. Roderick was raised in the church and attended Free Will Baptist School for elementary school. He later attended Country Day and Good Hope schools before continuing his education at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal School. As a teenager, Roderick was a talented basketball player, writer, and photographer, and eventually moved to Tallahassee, Florida, with his older brother to pursue basketball and finish high school. He ultimately graduated from Godby High School in 1993 and went on to attend Tallahassee Community College and then Florida State University, where he majored in economics.

After college, Roderick became an entrepreneur, opening several businesses over the years, to include Samsara Boutique which he co-founded with Coretta Hutson (to whom he married), and later his most recent endeavor– the Culinary Alchemist, which he founded with his family.

Roderick and Coretta raised their three beautiful daughters, Alem, Samadhi, and Ambessa Richardson, who was the pride and joy of his life.

With all of the projects he was working on, at his heart, Roderick, “The Alchemist”, was an artist. He loved dabbling in different media and began making work that he showed in galleries around Miami.

Roderick was active in his communities of both Miami and Atlanta,, where he lovingly and with dedication shared his studies and knowledge of health and wellness, and sustainable practices. He went back to school to get certified in nutrition at ECornell to hone his skills and broaden his knowledge base, and take his practice worldwide. He was all about health, education, and sharing what he knew with anyone who would listen.

He is preceded in death by his father, Richard Richardson, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Coretta Hutson Richardson and daughters Alem, Samadhi, and Ambessa Richardson. He is also survived by his mother, Cheryl Richardson, and brothers, Alphonso Hadaway, Richard Richardson and sister Henrietta Anglin, along with his many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
